Afro Twist | Protective styling

I am a big fan of protective styles because sometimes you just want to change up your look and give your natural hair (or should I say yourself) a break. Haha! Yes, I am not ashamed of saying that I need a break from my natural hair sometimes. But why lie, I always start missing it when it’s under. Like now. I miss seeing it, touching it, getting annoyed at it. Lol!

For those of you who are not familiar with protective styling. It is just a way to keep your natural hair ‘tucked away’ in order to achieve hair growth, length retention and moisture. So you are basically styling or plaiting your hair in such a way that it protects it from constant manipulation i.e. combing etc. There are various protective styles that one can do such as wearing weaves/wigs, braiding, cornrows, high buns and a plethora of others.

These ‘Afro twist’ hair extensions that I am wearing can be found at your local hair salon or beauty supply store. They are pretty much everywhere so I do not think they will be difficult to find. I did mine at a hair salon in Gaborone (Botswana) and they twisted the hair then later curled the singles using hot water.

Don’t be shy when it comes to wearing protective styles, your natural hair will love you for it! What is your favorite protective style? Has it helped you in your hair growth? Let me know in the comments.

P.S: Don’t mind my 5 head below! It just wanted to show some love.
